Switzerland-based fertiliser producer EuroChem has established a new phosphate fertiliser production facility in Serra do Salitre, Brazil.
The new facility will generate 15% of the nation’s phosphate fertiliser production, supporting a government initiative to reduce the massive reliance of the world’s most powerful farm on imports. With a production capacity of one million tonnes of advanced phosphate fertilisers annually, the new phosphate mine and plant complex was built in record time, giving Brazilian farmers much more reliable domestic phosphate fertiliser supplies.

It also offers integrated phosphate fertiliser production, with low water consumption, a fully closed water circuit, and a sustainable energy generation system that can provide upto 40% of the company’s energy requirements by re-using its own steam.
In the press release Oleg Shiryaev, group president of EuroChem, said, “EuroChem has a long-standing and successful history in South America, a key growth market for us, where there is a high demand for our products. The launch of our new facility moves us one step closer to our customers and allows us to provide Brazilian farmers with access to the highest quality fertilisers via our well-established distribution network in this important global breadbasket. EuroChem operates on a mine-to-farm basis, ensuring reliability and quality across the entire fertiliser supply chain, from raw material extraction to production and delivery to the end consumer.”
