Aptiv, an Ireland-based automotive technology supplier that develops connected solutions and manufactures electrical automotive components, plans to invest $40m (€36.81m) to establish a new manufacturing plant in El Salto, a city in the Mexican state of Jalisco. The company will create 2,200 new jobs through the project.

Aptiv has several active sites throughout Mexico, although this will be the first in the western state of Jalisco. The company also has operations in 48 countries worldwide, employing about 200,000 people, some 80,000 of whom reside in Mexico.

In a statement released to announce the investment, the Governor of the State of Jalisco, Enrique Alfaro Ramírez, said: “[Aptiv] is undoubtedly the leader in its sector, is dedicated above all to developing what is the operating system, the central brain of the electrical components of the cars that are going to arrive in Jalisco to manufacture these components.

“Without a doubt, [this is] great news for Jalisco and one more way to celebrate 200 years, which we celebrate this week as a free and sovereign state, and a sign of the confidence that the private sector has in our state.” It is understood that the jobs created will be targeted mostly at the female workforce.

The Aptiv announcement comes on the back of a series of lucrative foreign investments in Mexico in 2023, from the likes of Kia, Brown-Forman, Quanta Computer, DHL Express and ZF Group.
