Jordan is positioning itself for closer economic engagement with China, with its Investment Minister casting Beijing as central to the Kingdom's industrial and investment plans.

Minister of Investment Tareq Abu Ghazaleh made the remarks in an interview with Xinhua, pointing to a June visit to China that gave him direct exposure to the country's infrastructure development and long-term planning approach.

“With its competitive investment environment, strategic location and modern legislative framework, Jordan is well positioned to serve as a trusted partner and a regional platform for Chinese companies seeking to expand into regional and international markets,” Abu Ghazaleh was quoted as saying.

He said China's standing as a top-tier industrial, technological and trading power opens substantial scope for cooperation with Jordan across investment, industry and trade.

Abu Ghazaleh linked the growing weight of the relationship to overlaps between Chinese strengths and Jordanian priorities – namely advanced manufacturing, electronics, renewable energy, energy storage, electric mobility, rail, logistics, agri-tech and pharmaceuticals.

Investment sits at the core of Jordan's broader economic strategy, aimed at widening the country's productive base and building sustainable growth.

A run of reforms designed to sharpen the investment climate has coincided with foreign direct investment rising almost 25% in 2025, topping $2bn.

Chinese capital has flowed steadily into Jordan in that time, Abu Ghazaleh said, concentrated in renewable energy, manufacturing and logistics – activity he credited with generating jobs, backing local suppliers and bringing newer production technology into the market.

He pointed to the tie-up between Chinese investors and Jordan's Arab Potash Company as a case in point, saying it has lifted production capacity, boosted exports and reinforced Jordan's role as a major global fertiliser and agricultural-input supplier.

On what Jordan brings to the table, Abu Ghazaleh cited access to more than 50 global markets via free trade agreements, alongside a skilled workforce and developed infrastructure, logistics and digital systems – attributes he said pair naturally with China's industrial and technological base.
