Zollner Elektronik, a Germany-based electronics manufacturing services provider, has announced it plans to invest $14m in expanding its manufacturing operations at its facility in Danville in the US state of Virginia. The company will create 80 new jobs.

Zollner is headquartered in Zandt in the state of Bavaria in south-eastern Germany. The company was founded in 1965 and it now has 24 global locations including operations in China, Costa Rica, Hong Kong, Hungary, Romania, Switzerland, Tunisia and the US. It claims to be the largest employer in eastern Bavaria.

Danville lies on the southern border of Virginia, close to North Carolina. The city has a population of around 45,000. It had been built on the tobacco, textile and railroad industries, each of which struggled in the second half of the 20th century. Since then, Danville has moved into areas such as advanced manufacturing.
