Sweden-based Altris, which specialises in producing highly sustainable cathode materials for rechargeable sodium batteries, has opened its first office in China. Located in Guangzhou, the new branch will strengthen Altris’s presence in the Chinese market and help promote Fennac, the company’s innovative cathode material.
The opening follows a period of increased global demand for batteries and growing interest in the production of sodium-ion batteries. Earlier in 2021, China-based battery giant CATL announced plans to develop a supply chain to produce sodium-ion batteries by 2023.
In addition, Altris plans to build a new industrial-scale manufacturing unit in Sweden. The new site is expected to produce 2,000 tonnes of the cathode Fennac per year, enabling one gigawatt-hour of sustainable batteries.
