Investing in Slovenia: what you need to know

As of 2021, Slovenia has a population of 2.1 million, making it the 149th largest country in the world by this measure. There are 50% males and 50% females.

There are 941,383 people employed in Slovenia, with an unemployment rate of 5.9% – 36,169 people.

Slovenia is the 56th largest economy in the world with a GDP of $58.2bn. Slovenia’s GDP has grown by 20% between 2010 and 2021 and is expected to grow by 24% by 2025.

As of 2021 there are 80,764 students in tertiary education in Slovenia, with 150,183 students in secondary and 133,468 in primary education. Slovenia spent 4.1% of its GDP on education in 2019.

Slovenia ranked 37th in the World Bank’s Doing Business Report (2020). In the 2019 report it finished 40th. In the World Economic Forum’s Global Competitiveness Report (2019), Slovenia finished 35th, after ranking 35th in 2018.

Public healthcare expenditure totalled $3.1bn and private healthcare expenditure equalled $1.2bn in 2018.
