Walt Disney Company, a global entertainment company based in California, has announced plans to open a new studio hub in Vancouver, Canada. It will be located at Hamilton Street, replacing a space formerly used by animation and visual effects specialist Moving Picture Company. Walt Disney Animation Studios, a division of Walt Disney Company, will occupy the facility and will initially focus on long-form series work and special projects for Disney+. It will begin with a feature-quality musical series, Moana, set to debut on the streaming platform in 2024.

The upcoming Vancouver location will be the company’s only animation production hub globally outside its Californian headquarters. The Walt Disney Company was founded in 1923 and has offices in France, Germany, India, Thailand, the UK and the US. In July 2021, the company also announced plans to relocate 2,000 staff to Lake Nona, Florida, in 2026 to benefit from $570m in tax breaks offered by the state.
