Chinese biotech company MGI has opened its new European headquarters in the German capital of Berlin.

The site comprises a customer experience centre (CEC) and advanced labs, providing a home for the prototyping and testing of products by European partners. The CEC is intended to serve as a gateway for regional researchers and scientists to learn about MGI’s life sciences work. The facility also has DNA sequencing capabilities.

Located near the Berlin Brandenburg Airport, the facility spans 600sqm, with MGI planning further expansion.

Dr. Yong Hou, general manager of MGI Europe and Africa, said: “We chose Berlin for our European headquarters owing to its vibrant and dynamic environment, ensuring accessibility for partners, collaborators, and customers. I eagerly anticipate the innovative collaborations and discoveries ahead.”

Duncan Yu, president at MGI, added: “We have experienced positive growth and formed many valuable partnerships in the region in recent years. Establishing our new European headquarters will enable us to sustain this momentum to empower more users. We look forward to witnessing further advancements by providing an optimal customer experience and facilitating collaboration for greater omics access and capabilities in Europe and globally.”

In April, MGI opened a new CEC in Brazil. Elsewhere this year, it has partnered with MetaGenoPolis in France and with Eurofins Genomics Europe Genotyping. Headquartered in the Chinese city of Shenzhen, MGI has over 2,860 employees globally.
