Smoothie and juice brand Innocent Drinks, a part of the US-based Coca-Cola Company, has opened a new £200m factory in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

Known as the Blender, the new site is regarded as one the most sustainable healthy drinks factories in the world. The facility can produce up to 300 million litres of Innocent products per year and is strategically located to serve the UK and European market.

The opening allows Innocent to bring its operations largely in-house and better manage its manufacturing carbon footprint. Built with sustainable and locally sourced materials, the new factory incorporates technologies to reduce and reuse natural resources including its own solar panels and wind turbines

The new site plays an important role in Innocent’s strategy to become a completely carbon-neutral business by 2025. If everything goes to plan, the Blender will cut the company’s overall carbon footprint by about 10%.
