Denmark-based energy company Nordic Solar will build Lithuania’s largest solar park in Moletai, located 60km north of the country’s capital Vilnius.
The new solar park, currently under construction, will have a production capacity of 100MWp, which translates to powering around 28,000 households.
Nordic Solar has solar parks in nine European countries with a combined production capacity of around 390MWp.
“Lithuania is an important market for us to enter as it is an EU and Euro country, and we see beneficial synergy between the demand for more renewable energy, the focus on strengthening the local energy supply and our approach,” said Nikolaj Holtet Hoff, CEO of Nordic Solar. “We are excited about contributing to the local transition to renewable energy in Lithuania, where solar energy can make a difference.”
Lithuania has recently emerged as a hot spot for the life sciences industry, with investors looking into the biotech and medtech innovation sectors. In June, Invest Lithuania – the country’s investment promotion agency – said it managed to secure 57 investment projects over the past year, totalling €134.5m ($147m).
In the green energy sector, the International Energy Agency expects the country to get 100% of its electricity from renewables by 2050.
