Investing in Argentina: what you need to know

As of 2021, Argentina has a population of 45.8 million, making it the 32nd largest country in the world by this measure. There are 49.1% males and 50.9% females.

There are 18 million people employed in Argentina, with an unemployment rate of 11.7% – 1.9 million people.


Argentina is the 25th largest economy in the world with a GDP of $544.8bn. Argentina’s GDP has grown by 32% between 2010 and 2021 and is expected to grow by 61% by 2025.

As of 2021 there are 3.3 million students in tertiary education in Argentina, with 4.8 million students in secondary and 4.8 million in primary education. Argentina spent 8% of its GDP on education in 2019.

Argentina ranked 126th in the World Bank’s Doing Business Report (2020). In the 2019 report it finished 119th. In the World Economic Forum’s Global Competitiveness Report (2019), Argentina finished 83rd, after ranking 83rd in 2018.

Public healthcare expenditure totalled $27.8bn and private healthcare expenditure equalled $9.8bn in 2018.
