G42, the Emirati technology group based in Abu Dhabi, and a Vietnamese consortium have reached an agreement to develop AI infrastructure in Vietnam. The firms involved include the largest information technology service company in Vietnam, FPT Corporation, and the multi-industry investment firm Viet Thai Group.

The framework cooperation agreement, signed in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, is designed to develop “sovereign” AI capabilities and enhance cloud infrastructure, aligning with Vietnam’s vision to evolve into an AI-driven society.

The collaboration is supported by investment commitments amounting to up to $1bn.

FPT will contribute its technical expertise and understanding of the local market, Viet Thai Group adds strategic capabilities with its experience in sectors including foodservice, coffee, retail, and logistics, and G42 offers its advanced expertise in AI infrastructure.

As part of the agreement, G42 and the consortium will install substantial cloud capacity in three data centres within Vietnam, aiming to deliver high-performance AI and cloud services to cater to both public and private sectors.

This project aligns with G42’s broader mission to build an inclusive Intelligence Grid, which connects advanced AI frameworks and cloud platforms globally.

The infrastructure is expected to facilitate the development of national AI initiatives, supporting both public and private sector digitalisation and the deployment of AI solutions that address national priorities.

FPT chairman Dr Truong Gia Binh said: “Vietnam clearly understands that it cannot move forward alone. In areas such as semiconductors, AI, cloud computing, big data, and cybersecurity, we need strategic alliances with partners we can rely on and trust. The leaders have shown strong commitment, built mutual trust, and now it is time to turn those commitments into real implementation.”

In addition to the infrastructure, the partnership will introduce national AI training and workforce development programmes to promote AI adoption in government, industry, and academia.

Moving forward, the consortium and G42 will proceed to the execution phase of the agreement, addressing workload distribution between sectors, obtaining regulatory approvals for public cloud use, and beginning the development of data centre sites.

The initiative is anticipated to bring substantial economic benefits through direct infrastructure investment and job creation. It is also expected to position Vietnam as a strategic technology hub within the region.
