The funding for these projects will predominantly come from Maser Group’s subsidiary, MDR Investments, and China’s Chia Ventures.

MDR is also exploring public-private partnerships in countries like Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Zambia, Rwanda, and Nigeria. These partnerships will span various sectors, including low-cost housing, mining and agriculture, as said by Suri during a virtual interview on 2 February.

The United Nations Economic Commission for Africa reported that the continent spent over $83bn on food imports in 2023.

Meanwhile, McKinsey forecasts that Africa’s demand for data centres will increase from 0.4 gigawatts (GW) to approximately 2.2GW by 2030, necessitating an estimated $20bn in new investments.

Suri holds a 56% stake in Maser Group, which was established in 2014. The company operates across Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Ghana and Egypt, offering consumer electronics such as washing machines and refrigerators.

Other shareholders include Chia Ventures, backed by the People’s Insurance Co. of China, with a 30% stake, and TPA Electronics, holding 14%.

In November 2025, Maser Group announced plans for multimillion-dollar investments in copper mining across Mendoza, Argentina.

The confirmation of the investment comes after a meeting between Suri and Argentina’s Energy and Environment Minister, Jimena Latorre, in Abu Dhabi, as reported by The Guardian.ng.

Discussions centred on cooperation to accelerate AI-enabled mining, energy transition initiatives and infrastructure upgrades throughout Latin America.
