Investing in Taiwan: what you need to know

All of the key data and information needed when considering investing in Taiwan.

As of 2021, Taiwan has a population of 23.6 million, making it the 56th largest country in the world by this measure. There are 49.5% males and 50.5% females.

There are 11.2 million people employed in Taiwan, with an unemployment rate of 3.9% – 458,495 people.

Taiwan is the 21st largest economy in the world with a GDP of $662.1bn. Taiwan’s GDP has grown by 44% between 2010 and 2021 and is expected to grow by 19% by 2025.

As of 2021 there are 1.2 million students in tertiary education in Taiwan, with 1.3 million students in secondary and 1.1 million in primary education. Taiwan spent 3.4% of its GDP on education in 2019.

Taiwan ranked 15th in the World Bank’s Doing Business Report (2020). In the 2019 report it finished 13th. In the World Economic Forum’s Global Competitiveness Report (2019), Taiwan finished 12th, after ranking 12th in 2018.

Public healthcare expenditure totalled $22.5bn and private healthcare expenditure equalled $14.5bn in 2018.
