Investing in Oman: what you need to know

As of 2021, Oman has a population of 5.1 million, making it the 121st largest country in the world by this measure. There are 65.9% males and 34.1% females.

There are 2.4 million people employed in Oman, with an unemployment rate of 3% – 75,429 people.


Oman is the 194th largest economy in the world with a GDP of $75.7bn.

As of 2018 there were 119,722 students in tertiary education in Oman, with 422,440 students in secondary and 278,745 in primary education. Oman spent 6.6% of its GDP on education in 2019.

Oman ranked 68th in the World Bank’s Doing Business Report (2020). In the 2019 report it finished 78th. In the World Economic Forum’s Global Competitiveness Report (2019), Oman finished 53rd, after ranking 53rd in 2018.

Public healthcare expenditure totalled $3.3bn and private healthcare expenditure equalled $162m in 2018.
