Investing in Norway: what you need to know

As of 2021, Norway has a population of 5.4 million, making it the 118th largest country in the world by this measure. There are 50.5% males and 49.5% females.

There are 2.6 million people employed in Norway, with an unemployment rate of 4.5% – 97,650 people.

Norway is the 31st largest economy in the world with a GDP of $422.8bn. Norway’s GDP has grown by -2% between 2010 and 2021 and is expected to grow by 13% by 2025.

As of 2021 there are 300,910 students in tertiary education in Norway, with 458,753 students in secondary and 468,289 in primary education. Norway spent 7.5% of its GDP on education in 2019.

Norway ranked ninth in the World Bank’s Doing Business Report (2020). In the 2019 report it finished seventh. In the World Economic Forum’s Global Competitiveness Report (2019), Norway finished 17th, after ranking 17th in 2018.

Public healthcare expenditure totalled $37.8bn and private healthcare expenditure equalled $6.4bn in 2018.

The largest urban areas in Norway are Oslo (1.3 million people), Bergen (1 million) and Stavanger (137,900).
