The commitment was announced during the state visit of UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to Germany from 9 to 11 September 2026, his first as head of state, when he met German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
The spending is earmarked for new data centres and related infrastructure in Hamina, Kajaani, Muhos and Vaala.
The new site will be located about 6.5 miles (10.46km) from Hitachi Energy’s existing plant in Crystal Springs.
The direction was issued following an expanded Communist Party Committee meeting at SASAC.
