Toshiba Transmission & Distribution Systems India (TTDI), part of the Japanese electronics giant Toshiba, has unveiled its new manufacturing facility in Rudraram, Telangana, India.

The new site will specialise in cold rolled grain-oriented steel (CRGO) core processing solutions with a capacity to process 12,000 tons annually. The facility also houses a dedicated surge arrester production line that will manufacture 80,000 units annually.

TTDI has also broken ground for a new extra-high-voltage (EHV) power transformer manufacturing line. Upon completion, it will raise TTDI’s overall power transformer production capacity to 42,000 MVA per annum. Through these investments, TTDI aims to address the growing demand in India and international markets.

Earlier this year, in April 2025, TTDI signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Government of Telangana to expand its manufacturing capabilities in the state. As part of the MoU, the parties agreed that a proposed investment of $70m (JPY 10bn) would generate over 250 direct jobs over three years. These new manufacturing lines in Rudraram are part of this investment strategy.

Hiroshi Furuta, chairman and managing director of TTDI, stated that the planned investments will bolster Toshiba’s manufacturing footprint in India.

“We are poised to accelerate our manufacturing capabilities, improve operational efficiency, increase speed-to-market, and deliver high-quality, sustainable energy solutions for India and the world,” he added.
