Boeing has opened a new distribution centre in the German town of Dormagen.
The US aerospace giant will use the facility to support its commercial airline customers in Europe. It is the third distribution Boeing has opened in Germany and is expected to deliver shorter parts delivery times, as well as quicker repair, maintenance and overhaul work.
Located between the cities of Cologne and Düsseldorf, the Cologne Distribution Centre covers an area of 4,500sqm. It has space to store more than 9,000 parts for Boeing aircraft, including large items such as landing gear components, and is forecast to ship around 30,000 parts to customers this year. The facility is being operated in partnership with third-party logistics provider GXO.
Michael Haidinger president of Boeing Germany, commented: “Our new logistics and spare parts centre in Dormagen joins our existing distribution services operations in Norderstedt and Henstedt-Ulzburg. With this new site, we are doubling down on our commitment to the German aerospace community, our customers and local partners.”
Richard Cawston, chief revenue officer at GXO, added: “We are proud to extend our collaboration with Boeing to Germany, following our longstanding partnership in the US, affirming our proven expertise providing logistics services to the aerospace and defence industry. The warehouse in Dormagen is ideally located near the Cologne and Düsseldorf airports to ensure a seamless flow of deliveries to Boeing customers.”
