Strategically located in Washington County, the facility aims to supply railcar fleets across North America. Initially, it will start by fulfilling orders to deliver fleets of railcars to D.C. Metro and Baltimore Metro SubwayLink.

Hitachi Rail allocated nearly $30m for digital enhancements at its new site. The facility will utilise artificial intelligence, robotics, and other advanced technologies for quality checks. Additionally, it will also include a demonstration of One Hitachi’s technologies via a new customer experience centre.

Wes Moore, Governor of Maryland, called the new factory a major milestone in the partnership between Hitachi and the state of Maryland.

“It will create hundreds of jobs and power the region’s transit infrastructure with railcars equipped with cutting-edge technology. It also affirms Maryland’s position as a premier location for global investment in the industries of the future,” he added.
