Colorcon, a US-based provider of pharmaceutical packaging solutions, has launched a new film coating manufacturing facility in Johor, Malaysia.

Initially announced in June 2023, the site will produce film coating products for pharmaceutical and nutraceutical manufacturers located in the Southeast Asia region. Spanning around 18,580sqm, it will immediately employ 30 people.

Colorcon’s new site enhances its production scheduling flexibility while also increasing efficiency. Additionally, it will also provide a reinforced supply chain to address future industry demands in the region.

Simon Tasker, CEO of Colorcon, stated that the new facility aims to support its pharmaceutical customers throughout Asia.

“The new plant in Malaysia will reduce delivery lead times, improve our sustainability and strengthen our assurance of supply. This investment is aligned with our long-term vision to strengthen and de-risk our supply model for film coatings worldwide,” he added.

Willem Hoogwater, managing director at Colorcon, emphasised Malaysia’s position as an important hub for high-value pharmaceutical manufacturing.
