BGS US, a subsidiary of the German provider of sterilisation solutions BGS Beta-Gamma-Service, has unveiled its new facility in Imperial, Pennsylvania, US.

Spanning around 10,000sqm, the new electron beam (E-Beam) sterilisation facility offers flexible storage and production capacities. First announced in September 2024, the new facility marks BGS’s entry into the US market. Additionally, it aims to address the growing demand for sterilisation alternatives in the region.

The new facility incorporates advanced electron accelerator technology and fully automated product handling. Located near the Pittsburgh International Airport, it also offers accessibility to a large customer base across the Northeast, Midwest, and South.

Andreas Ostrowicki, managing director of BGS Beta-Gamma-Service, referred to the northeastern US as one of the most important regions for the medical technology industry.

“With its excellent transport links and strong tradition as an industrial location, Pittsburgh offers ideal conditions for our local commitment,” he added.

Leonard Zuba, managing director of BGS US LLC, expressed his delight at the successful completion of the new facility within the planned timeframe.

“The last few months have shown that there is a high demand for innovative sterilisation solutions based on electron beam technology in the US market,” he added.

According to the Pittsburgh Regional Alliance, an increasing number of German companies are investing in the Pittsburgh region. Presently, 84 German-owned companies operate approximately 200 establishments, creating nearly 11,000 jobs in the region.

BGS Beta-Gamma-Service specialises in industrial applications of beta and gamma rays for radiation sterilisation and crosslinking. It operates two gamma plants and eight electron accelerators across three locations in Germany.
