Taiwanese electronics manufacturer Acer has launched a new laptop manufacturing facility in Kurumbapet, Puducherry, India. The project is a partnership with Plumage Solutions, an Indian computer hardware manufacturer.
The new site builds on Acer’s ongoing partnership with Plumage, which already includes the production of various computer peripherals. Additionally, Plumage will invest over $5.7m over the next few years to further support the partnership.
The new facility has been established under the Government of India’s Production Linked Incentive Scheme (PLI) for IT Hardware. The scheme offers financial incentives based on incremental sales of IT hardware products manufactured in India.
The new Puducherry facility is part of Acer’s localisation strategy that aims to increase domestic production and reduce import dependence. The site will also enhance supply chain efficiency, shorten delivery timelines, and address the growing demand from both urban and emerging markets. It will have an annual production capacity of 300,000 laptop units.
Harish Kohli, president and managing director, Acer India, stated that the new facility underscored Acer’s self-reliance in electronics manufacturing.
“It will help us serve the Indian market more efficiently while aligning with the government’s vision of making India a global electronics hub,” he added.
