Investing in Lithuania: what you need to know

As of 2021, Lithuania has a population of 2.7 million, making it the 141st largest country in the world by this measure. There are 46.4% males and 53.6% females.

There are 1.3 million people employed in Lithuania, with an unemployment rate of 5.9% – 80,217 people.

Lithuania is the 57th largest economy in the world with a GDP of $59bn. Lithuania’s GDP has grown by 59% between 2010 and 2021 and is expected to grow by 24% by 2025.

As of 2021 there are 123,346 students in tertiary education in Lithuania, with 227,416 students in secondary and 116,981 in primary education. Lithuania spent 3.1% of its GDP on education in 2019.

Lithuania ranked 11th in the World Bank’s Doing Business Report (2020). In the 2019 report it finished 14th. In the World Economic Forum’s Global Competitiveness Report (2019), Lithuania finished 39th, after ranking 39th in 2018.

Public healthcare expenditure totalled $2.4bn and private healthcare expenditure equalled $1.2bn in 2018.

The largest urban areas in Lithuania are Vilnius (795,494 people), Kaunas (539,474) and Klaipeda (313,941).
