Mirka, a Finnish provider of surface finishing solutions, has opened a new production facility in Indianapolis, Indiana, US.
Mirka’s new site, its first such facility outside Europe, strengthens its presence in the North American market. The company has been active in the country through its sales subsidiary, Mirka USA. The new site, however, enables Mirka to produce locally for its customers and aligns with its strategy to enhance its presence in key global markets.
The Indianapolis facility serves as a conversion unit, processing large jumbo rolls of abrasive materials into finished products designed for the American market. This approach reflects the successful operation of a similar unit at Mirka’s distribution centre in Belgium.
Featuring extensive automation, the facility is projected to employ nearly 30 people when it is fully operational.
Stefan Sjoberg, CEO of Mirka, remarked that the new facility reinforces the firm’s position in a key market while enhancing its competitiveness. He added that the ideal timing also provides a solid foundation for future growth.
“This strategic investment is a vital step in our ambition to be closer to our customers and to meet their increasing demands for fast delivery and flexibility,” Sjoberg added.
