In Saudi Arabia and the GCC, construction projects are progressing at a notable pace. MEED Projects reports that the total contract awards in the GCC for the first half of 2026 have reached $128 bn, compared to $114 bn during the same period last year. The project pipeline is extensive, with a unified delivery standard emerging as a key approach to maintaining cost efficiency and quality in the supply chains associated with large developments.
When numerous independent firms work on-site, each utilising their own methods, interpretations of standards, and profit margins, inefficiencies can arise, leading to increased costs associated with errors that could have been avoided.
A potential solution to this issue is the establishment of a uniform standard that all firms must follow before commencing any work. In a cultural heritage-anchored development, where every asset draws value from a shared environment, a single sub-standard fit-out imposes a cost on all stakeholders, including developers and firms.
