Investing in Lebanon: what you need to know

As of 2021, Lebanon has a population of 6 million, making it the 112th largest country in the world by this measure. There are 50.2% males and 49.8% females.

There are 2.1 million people employed in Lebanon, with an unemployment rate of 6.3% – 140,924 people.


Lebanon is the 208th largest economy in the world with a GDP of $60bn. Lebanon’s GDP has grown by 56% between 2010 and 2021 and is expected to grow by 21% by 2025.

As of 2018 there were 231,215 students in tertiary education in Lebanon, with 402,502 students in secondary and 509,280 in primary education. Lebanon spent 3% of its GDP on education in 2019.

Lebanon ranked 143rd in the World Bank’s Doing Business Report (2020). In the 2019 report it finished 142nd. In the World Economic Forum’s Global Competitiveness Report (2019), Lebanon finished 88th, after ranking 88th in 2018.

Public healthcare expenditure totalled $2.2bn and private healthcare expenditure equalled $2.2bn in 2018.
