Investing in the Czech Republic: what you need to know

As of 2021, the Czech Republic has a population of 10.7 million, making it the 86th largest country in the world by this measure. There are 49.3% males and 50.7% females.

There are 5 million people employed in the Czech Republic, with an unemployment rate of 3.3% – 172,038 people.

The Czech Republic is the 45th largest economy in the world with a GDP of $246.5bn. The Czech Republic’s GDP has grown by 28% between 2010 and 2021 and is expected to grow by 14% by 2025.

As of 2021 there are 378,430 students in tertiary education in the Czech Republic, with 784,932 students in secondary and 642,338 in primary education. The Czech Republic spent 4.5% of its GDP on education in 2019.

The Czech Republic ranked 41st in the World Bank’s Doing Business Report (2020). In the 2019 report it finished 35th. In the World Economic Forum’s Global Competitiveness Report (2019), the Czech Republic finished 32nd, after ranking 32nd in 2018.

Public healthcare expenditure totalled $15bn and private healthcare expenditure equalled $3.2bn in 2018.

The largest urban areas in the Czech Republic are Prague (2.7 million people), Stredocesky (1.4 million) and Prague Capital (1.3 million).
