Investing in Croatia: what you need to know

As of 2021, Croatia has a population of 4 million, making it the 128th largest country in the world by this measure. There are 48.2% males and 51.8% females.

There are 1.6 million people employed in Croatia, with an unemployment rate of 6% – 103,183 people.

Croatia is the 55th largest economy in the world with a GDP of $62.7bn. Croatia’s GDP has grown by 4% between 2010 and 2021 and is expected to grow by 19% by 2025.

As of 2021 there are 167,603 students in tertiary education in Croatia, with 340,379 students in secondary and 167,220 in primary education. Croatia spent 1.5% of its GDP on education in 2019.

Croatia ranked 51st in the World Bank’s Doing Business Report (2020). In the 2019 report it finished 58th. In the World Economic Forum’s Global Competitiveness Report (2019), Croatia finished 63rd, after ranking 63rd in 2018.

Public healthcare expenditure totalled $3.3bn and private healthcare expenditure equalled $1.1bn in 2018.

The largest urban areas in Croatia are Zagreb (1.2 million people), Zagreb City (801,715) and Split (437,591).
